HBH DESIGNS

Haly Baleotis Higginbotham

As a young designer and recent graduate of Florida Atlantic University’s School of Architecture, Haly is the principal architect and owner of Haly Baleotis Higginbotham Designs (HBH Designs). Her work in architecture has won her National Design Awards, from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the Society of American Registered Architects (SARA), as she explores her role in designing the future. HBH Designs is based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with work in Broward, Miami-Dade, and the Palm Beaches. The firm is a multi-disciplinary practice that includes architecture, landscape architecture, and urban design, encompassing all fields for a cohesive and complete design process.

HBH Designs practices architecture with a meticulous approach, integrating cross-disciplinary research and multiple technologies to produce evolving designs that incorporate sustainability and digital fabrication.

Haly is most passionate about enhancing her skills and increasing her intake of knowledge and experiences. She continues to explore design topics founded in empirical studies but also infused with new technologies. Her application of technology entails hybridizing analog and digital delineation in order to explore spatial and formal qualities in her design. Hybridizing in this sense opens new creative possibilities inherent in the mode of the representation.

Her design interests circle around how we can work in collaboration with climate change and in particular, sea-level rising. Her approach to sea-level rise includes exploring an architectural language that actively teaches the public about the world around them. By exposing the public to environmental research and conservation systems, the public can become more aware and begin to practice effective strategies themselves.

As a South Florida native, the explorative projects in Haly’s local arena are especially beloved. For her, providing an option for the public to enjoy our unique and evolving environment we live in now, and in the future, is a necessity. Shaded outdoor spaces allow us to appreciate the coastal breeze, expansive horizons of water and skies besides the incredible Florida sunsets. Haly believes her local community is a paradise in need of her dedication as a designer to effectively orchestrate spaces that spark social interaction and true innovation.

A concern of Haly’s is the spatial realms of future transportation systems. Her speculations integrate existing modes of transportation with exponential opportunities yet to come. Autonomous public transportation systems for circulation on new artificial ground can allow us to inhabit and develop networks within other layers of our world.

Creativity, she believes, surfaces when one is compelled to explore the systems that work cohesively with people and the best concern for the environment, now and in the future.
